Another reason why I'm still seven years old

So I heard that there was a lunar eclipse last night. I missed it, oh well.

Took a look at the Wikipedia page on lunar eclpses. Interesting stuff.

Then I noticed this line:

"A penumbral eclipse occurs when the Moon passes through the Earth's penumbra."

My first thought was, YEEOOWWCH.

Then I giggled like a little kid. Hee hee...poop joke!

This sort of thing happens everyday, Part 2

...and this story was on Yahoo News yesterday:
Driver seeking a brake job crashes

LONGVIEW, WASH. - Yep. It was the brakes all right. A motorist whose brakes were "acting strange" and wanted them checked drove through the front window of a tire store when the brakes failed as he was pulling into a parking slip, Longview police Officer Erik Hendrickson said.

No one was injured in the Monday morning incident at a Les Schwab store on Longview's Ocean Beach Highway, although "six or eight feet of the car was inside the store," Hendrickson said.

The driver of the Cadillac DeVille was able to stop by throwing the transmission into park, Hendrickson said. No citation was issued because the driver was seeking assistance for the problem and there was no intent to cause harm, he said.

The car was towed to another shop for repair.
And again, they saved the funniest part for last:
"This is probably the third time in 15 years" that a car has crashed through the store's front window, Les Schwab manager Ken Millus said with a chuckle. "It's pretty much the same spot, too. When you hear it, you're not even surprised anymore."
Credit where credit is due: I first read of the story on Chuck Shepherd's News of the Weird Daily blog.

Apparently, to some Portlanders, this sort of thing happens every day

Saw this news story on KOIN.com:
Crash: 7-11 Becomes Drive-Through

PORTLAND - It happened on Southeast Division Street in Portland.

According to reports, when 27-year-old Johnny Hollingsworth went to leave the parking lot, he put his car into "drive" instead of "reverse" and drove through a front window, into the soda aisle.

Hollingsworth was cited for driving with a suspended license.
Here's the funniest part:
The clerk said people just kept lining up at the counter with their purchases.

I'm looking forward to fall for, I think, the first time ever

It's a quarter to nine at night, dark outside...and it's 93 degrees. 93 degrees!

So how's your evening?

Well, eat your heart out - It lusually gets down to 60's, or ususlly 50 at night here, even when it's been really hot during the day. And the humidity is in the 50's to 60's! At lesst you will get a little respite when you come up for John's wedding. I look forward to that time - miss you a lot!

Three killed in Neosho, Mo., church shooting

Today, from the Associated Press:

NEOSHO, Mo. — A gunman opened fire in a Neosho church this afternoon, killing three people and wounding several others.

The call came in to police about 2 p.m. from the First Congregational Church near downtown, said Desiree Bridges, a spokeswoman for the city. An unknown number of people, but fewer than 10, were also shot and wounded, she said. The shooting took place in the church sanctuary, she said.

The gunman was being held at the Newton County Jail, but police were not releasing any information about him. Bridges, however, said the suspect was related to someone in the church, but she would not elaborate.

Bridges said the shooter had three firearms on him, but wouldn’t say what type. The shooting followed the 1 p.m. service.

The shooter then held about 25 to 50 people hostage. Negotiations lasted about 10 minutes, while police were in the church basement, Bridges said.
I am copying this story because Neosho is so close by here—about 25 miles due south of Carthage.

Pray for the families of the victims. Pray for the gunman. Pray for Neosho.

(Here's the article from the Neosho Daily News, which has more detail.)
