Another little something for Mom and Con

So I was surfing around tonight, when, for whatever reason, I decided to look up the name of my mom's husband, Conrad. Turns out that there are lots of pages with his name, many of them in French, as he just happens to have the same name as a famous early 20th-century geologist who trekked around in the Sahara Desert trying to prove that there was oil under there (he was so right).

So I suppose that when you are a famous geologist, someone's probably going to name some stuff after you at some point. Well, this is what the French did in the town of Mantes-la-Jolie, which is about 25 miles west of Paris. If you follow this link and look at the street names, you'll see, right there in the middle near the banks of the Seine...

Rue Conrad Kilian

Can't tell if there are any gas stations on that street, though.

I guess he lost the argument with his wife

Nicole and I were on the way to the store tonight to get some ice cream, when we saw the strangest thing.

There, in his yard, was a man mowing his lawn...at night, by the light of his car's headlights.

Now tell me I'm not in redneck country.

Three out of four ain't bad?

In the Joplin, Missouri phone book, there are thirty or so listings for businesses called “Tri-State _______”.

“Tri-State” means, of course, “representing three states”.

The thing is, Joplin is part of a four-state area—Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas:

So, either these businesses were established way back before Oklahoma became a U.S. state in 1907, or I think someone’s getting a bad deal here.

I'm afraid it must be choice B, my friend. If they were established prior to OK statehood, then it would be "Tri-State and One-Territory Whatever" or even better, "Tri-State and Indian Territory Whatever".

At last check, our signature Whatever–"Husky or Maltese Whatever"-still exists too. So life is beautiful.

Who's with me?

One of these Saturdays I'd like to take a whole day and do nothing but blog. I'm thinking maybe 100 individual posts in a day - without pre-typing anything. Maybe I'll set a minimum length for each post, maybe one paragraph, maybe 100 words, I don't know. Pictures allowed, of course, as long as there's a description of at least a paragraph.

100 posts might seem too much to start with - maybe I'll commit to 25, then 50, then 75. Anyone with me?
