And you think Portland is weird
So I can't figure out which is the most ridiculous:
1. That in Jasper County, Missouri, the position of Coroner is an elected position
2. That there are four candidates vying for said elected position in this fall's election
3. That at least two of the candidates are actually running on a Republican ticket, as though party affiliation has anything to do with competence as a County Coroner!
(In all fairness, I could only find one link to a campaign website, and signs for just three of the four candidates. According to this Globe article, the fourth candidate's name is Shane R. Moore, who may or may not still be running.)
I've been trying to think of a Top Five list of campaign slogans for a County Coroner candidate, but I'm coming up empty. Maybe you all can help?

Yeah, weird. And weirder is the last sentence in the link you provided:
"Your vote for Scott Keatts is a vote to reestablish pride in the Jasper County Coroner’s Office"
Re-establish pride? When was it lost?

My wife and I noticed this the other day while out for a walk. We too thought it ridiculous. I don't know about you, but I think it's a little odd for a person to stick these signs in their front yard.
"Really? You're serious? You care about WHO wins the County Coroner position?"
What does that say about the person inside the house? Just thinking out loud here...
Sometimes this area is just so odd.

There's one yard in Carthage that has two signs - for two different candidates. My wife concluded that the husband supports one guy and the wife supports the other. I can imagine the heated debates in that house.

Stan -- it's an administrative position -- here's a nice list:

-- the medical examiners do the autopsies -- the coroner mostly just looks at the body and just says "Yep, he dead." [or "Yep he's did" depending on where you live.]
